American University Park (AUP) on the border of Montgomery County and D.C. at Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Western Avenues and is located at one of the highest elevations in Washington. The community consists of around 2,500 homes built mostly by the W.C. & A.N. Miller companies in the 1940’s. Tall trees and mature landscaping, brick colonial and charming bungalow homes in a neighborhood with sidewalks in an incredibly convenient location make this community very appealing to many homeowners. Many AUP homes are within walking distance to both the Friendship Heights and the Tenley Town shopping and metro stations, the very popular Turtle Park, Georgetown Day School and the Embassy of Sweden.
Barnaby Woods in Chevy Chase is located off Western Avenue and runs east to Rock Creek Park, west to Utah and south to Nebraska Avenue. Most of the homes are single family detached houses, modest in size but off the charts in the charm department.
Burleith is located just north of Georgetown west of Wisconsin Avenue backing up to Glover Park and north to Mass Avenue Heights. It is predominantly a neighborhood of row houses, many of them with front porches.
Capitol Hill is two areas, southeast, the House side of the Capitol and northeast, the Senate side, of the Capitol. Also home to The Library of Congress and Union Station it is a neighborhood full of history, architectural style, colors and character and features wide avenues lined with row houses, many of them built in the late 19th century and early 20th century. About a third of the members of Congress live on Capitol Hill. Pennsylvania Avenue is the primary commercial center of the area. Eastern Market draw throngs of people from on and off the Hill.
Chevy Chase, D.C. is just across Western Avenue from Chevy Chase, Maryland, and is an affluent neighborhood of single family detached homes, row houses, condos and a bustling shopping district on the District/Maryland line. Friendship Heights (Western and Wisconsin Avenues) including Mazza Gallerie, features major stores including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Tiffany’s, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, The Gap, Pottery Barn and, a new Hechts, Giant and Fresh Fields are scheduled to open soon. High end luxury condos at Chase Point by PN Hoffman are nearing completion and delivery is expected in January 2007. The Friendship Heights Metro is at the intersection of Western and Wisconsin Avenues.
Cleveland Park is located between Wisconsin and Connecticut Avenues in Northwest, DC, is easily accessible to the Cleveland Park Metro Station and is home to the Washington National Cathedral, the Washington International School, The Maret School, St. Albans and The Sidwell Friends Schools. The neighborhood is a popular place to live, and features interesting and varied architecture, including many beautiful, large old Victorian style homes, mature trees, lovely gardens, sidewalks, and is one of the most sought after close in neighborhoods in NW DC.
Dupont Circle is the neighborhood fanning out from the Dupont traffic circle at the intersections of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire Avenues. At the center of the circle a large fountain is surrounded by chess tables and benches in a park like setting where street bands often play amidst constant activity. Its streets are lined with beautiful architecturally interesting 19th century row houses. A busy commercial district is located in the immediate area around the circle, including popular restaurants, shops and bookstores. The Dupont Circle metro station is right at the circle and from there it is just a short walk to K St at the heart of the business district, Farragut North, and the White House.
Forest Hills is located east of upper Connecticut Avenue and extends to Rock Creek Park. It is a neighborhood of handsome large single family homes on relatively large lots convenient to shopping and transportation along Connecticut Avenue and Friendship Heights.
Georgetown is located along the Potomac River and Wisconsin Avenue and K Street in Northwest Washington. It is easily accessible to Rosslyn in Virginia by the Key Bridge; the Mall and Capital Hill areas by the Whitehurst Freeway; and MD by Canal and Foxhall Roads. Restaurants, shops and condos along the water front have spectacular views of the water, the Kennedy Center, monuments and Virginia. Its cobblestone streets, charming atmosphere, mostly 19th century row houses, secret gardens, diversity of boutique style shopping, antique shops, galleries, restaurants and nightlife, have long made it a tourist magnet. It is also the home to many political figures and other prominent Washingtonians as well as Dumbarton Oaks, Georgetown University, and a branch of the the Corcoran School of Art.
Kalorama is nestled up against Rock Creek Park and lies between Connecticut Avenue and Massachusetts Avenues and is within walking distance of both the Woodley Park-Zoo and Dupont Circle Metro stations. Five United States Presidents lived in Kalorama at some point in their lives. Kalorama is known for its architecturally interesting and beautiful homes, ranging from small and large older buildings converted into condos and coops, some newer condos, row houses with front porches, and some spectacular single family detached estate-like properties.
Kent extends from MacArthur Boulevard by Sibley Hospital at the edge the DC/MD line near the reservoir along Loughboro Rd to Chain Bridge Road and is a lovely older neighborhood built mostly in the 1940’s. Its superb location amidst towering older trees is convenient to the river, local shops along MacArthur Blvd as well as on New Mexico Avenue or for a quick shoot into Georgetown or across the bridge into Rosslyn, McLean, the Kennedy Center, Capital Hill or to shopping at the Shops at Sumner Place makes this beautiful neighborhood a real jewel.
Logan Circle is the neighborhood around the Logan traffic circle, located at the intersection of 13th and P streets, six blocks from Dupont Circle. Logan has become revitalized in recent years, now being a popular theater and art district.
Spring Valley is bordered by Loughboro Road to the south, and lies west of Massachusetts Avenue across from American University Park. Its street are lined with many larger and very beautiful homes including several embassies.
Wesley Heights is a community of exquisite and stately older homes located between Loughboro Road, Nebraska and Massachusetts Avenues near American University and roughly down to Battery Kemble Park to the west and Glover Park to the east. Built in large part by the W.C. & A.N. Miller companies in the 1940’s, many of the homes are stone or brick colonials on relatively large lots with mature trees and lovely landscaping.
